Everything you hand to a customer, cook, store-keeper or vendor comes out of Neviscater as a PDF. Printing is available from each screen's Print button, from the order/event Actions menus, and from sidebar Order Actions → Print …. This guide lists what can be printed, the settings that control the look, and how to build custom templates.

Printing preferences
Application Setup → Preferences → Printing controls every menu PDF:
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Print Page Header / Main Header Content | Letterhead text at the top of each page |
| Print Company Details | Company name, address, contacts from Business Details |
| Print Each Event Menu on New Page | One event per page |
| Print Each Sub Menu on New Page | Starters, Mains, Desserts… each on its own page |
| Print Menu Items under Sub Menu header | Group items by sub-menu, one block per sub-menu, in your sub-menu order |
| Print Sub Menu Names | Whether sub-menu names appear on the print — as the heading above each group, or as a column in the item list. Untick it with grouping on to get the grouped layout with no headings and no gaps between groups, just the items in sub-menu order. The Veg / Non-Veg sections and columns layouts always print the names above their groups |
| Veg / Non-Veg on menus | How the Veg / Egg / Non-Veg marks on items (Items and Recipes → Veg / Non-Veg) reach the printed menu. Not shown — menus print as before. Marks before items — a small green / amber / red mark before each marked item. Separate sections with headings — under each sub menu the Veg items come first, then Egg, then Non-Veg, each under its own small heading; a sub menu that is all one kind gets no heading. Separate sections with marks — the same order, with the mark before each item instead of a heading. Side-by-side columns with headings — the kinds in columns, Veg on the left, each under its heading. Side-by-side columns with marks — the same columns, with marks instead of headings. Unmarked items sit with the veg ones and never carry a mark. The four sections / columns choices tick Print Sub Menu Names for you |
| Print Menu Items on Separate Lines | One item per line instead of flowing text |
| Print Item Description | Add each item's description |
| Print Event Times | Show event start/end time |
| Use Translated Text | Print the regional-language name from Text Conversions |
| Sort menu items by | Item names / item types / sub-menus |
| Item-wise Raw Materials Layout | Detailed Table or Kitchen Sheet — the default layout for the item-wise raw materials printout; the print dialog remembers whatever was printed last. See Raw Materials Consumption → Kitchen Sheet layout |
Under the same page:
- Business Details — Company Name, Logo, Address, contacts, GST No., FSSAI License No., Website, bank details, UPI ID, QR Code — all printable on bills.
-
Fonts (Font Name, Font Size) and Background Images, also on the Printing tab:
- Report Background — Cover Page (A4 portrait; the background of the first page of a report) and Report Background — Subsequent Pages (repeats on every page after the first).
-
Cover Pages — full-art pages printed before the report content, in order, and Footer Pages — full-art pages printed after it (a thank-you or back-cover design). Add Page uploads JPEG, PNG or WebP art (A4 portrait, roughly 794 × 1061 px, up to 8 MB); each page has an order number, Preview, Remove, and an optional overlay box that prints event details on the art — e.g.
{{ order.customer.customer_name }}. - Item Tag Size (A4 / Half A4, portrait / landscape) and Item Tag Background.
- Each of the two backgrounds, Cover Pages and Footer Pages has an Applies to reports list of tick boxes: unselected reports print without that artwork. The artwork also applies to custom templates.
- Report Styles tab — the Report Style picker: one of the built-in looks — Classic (dark slate header, orange accents), Royale (fine-dining serif with gold rules), Metro (bold teal banner, striped tables) or Letterhead (formal black-on-white). A live preview appears below (choose the sample report: Event Menu, Order Menus, Bill Details or Customer Invoice); Download Sample PDF gives you the same sample as a real PDF, page breaks and all. Brand Colors & Font are optional overrides on top of the chosen style, across all reports: tick a colour (Accent color, Header background, Table header background, Totals background, Menu heading color, Menu item color) to override it, untick to return to the style's own value, and pick the Report font (Style default or Elegant serif). The preview updates live; overrides apply to real reports after Save. When a custom template is active for any report type, the tab says so — These reports use a custom template instead of the selected style — with a Manage templates link.
See Preferences for the rest of that page.
Custom PDF Templates
When the built-in styles are not enough — the menu must be laid out exactly like your printed card, or the bill must match your stationery — write a custom PDF template: a page of HTML with Twig placeholders plus CSS, managed under Application Setup → Tools & Settings → PDF Templates. The active template of a report type replaces the selected style for that report; everything else here — fonts, backgrounds, artwork pages, brand colours — still applies around it.
The full guide, with a complete event-menu example, the variables and building blocks per report type, Create from Image and export/import between accounts, is Custom PDF Templates with Twig.
Common questions
My logo is missing on PDFs. Upload it under Preferences → Business Details → Logo, and make sure Print Company Details is on — or, in a custom template, that it uses page_header() or company_logo(); see Logos and images.
Can I use one of the built-in styles and just change the colours? Yes — Preferences → Report Styles → Brand Colors & Font; no template needed.
My custom template suddenly prints in the built-in style. The active template failed to render and Neviscater fell back. Open it in PDF Templates → Edit and look at the preview for the error — see Custom PDF Templates → Common questions.
Menus print in English only. Turn on Use Translated Text and add translations under Application Setup → Text Conversions.
The bill lacks GST/bank details. Fill them in Business Details and tick the options in the bill's Invoice Printing Options.
Printing fails or hangs. PDFs are rendered on the server; very large orders take a few seconds. If it fails repeatedly, Contact Us → Report an Issue with the order number.
